As the UK’s largest police service, we can offer forensic scientists a fast-paced environment and the chance to develop their skills working for the Evidence Recovery Unit on major and specialist crime scene investigations across the capital. We’ll look to you to provide effective technical leadership in the forensic laboratory – supervising, training, mentoring and developing a team of scientists and other specialists – as well as playing a hands-on role in major crime investigations at the scene and in the laboratory. Currently a supervisor or reporting scientist in a forensic science laboratory, you must have experience of major crime scenes, in addition to being able to develop people and processes. We’re looking for a relevant science degree or equivalent, along with experience of attending crime scenes and conducting laboratory-based examinations. The ability to interpret body fluid evidence and retrieve and sample exhibits for DNA analysis and/or the ability to enhance, recover and compare shoe marks will be essential. Experience of giving court evidence in written and oral form and reporting on casework from major crimes is also required. You should also be able to influence new ways of working and develop junior staff. You will also need a full driving licence. The program, termed the International Criminal Investigations Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), works in foreign nations to further develop strong, science-based criminal investigations. The positions are generally short in duration and range from 1-3 weeks.

This exciting and unique program focuses on providing high-quality forensic training to countries working to upgrade their forensic capabilities.Qualifications: Qualified individuals will have an extensive background in forensic science, with knowledge of a broad range of basic and advanced forensic science applications and techniques including forensic disciplines. The successful candidate must posses at least a B.S. in the biological sciences, Ph.D or M.D. preferred. Applicants must have 7 or more years of experience as an active forensic scientist in one of the above listed forensic disciplines.
