CRIME SCENE SHIFT SUPERVISOR
City of Phoenix

NOTE: Appointments to positions in the Police Department are subject to meeting appropriate polygraph and background standards. 

SALARY $52,603 - $78,562 annualized

EXPERIENCE Requires four years of experience in crime scene processing or a related forensic discipline, INCLUDING two years at the level of Crime Scene Specialist III or its equivalent in a lead capacity, AND a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, forensic science, criminal justice, or a related field.  Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.  Professional certification from the International Association for Identification or the American Board of Criminalistics is preferred. 

DUTIES This position provides first line supervision to the Crime Scene Specialists who collect, preserve, analyze, and process physical evidence.  Work is performed in the field, including crime scenes and autopsies, and in the laboratory.  Types of crime scenes include person crimes, such as homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, as well as property crimes and traffic accidents.  Evidence includes biological, latent fingerprints, trace, firearms, and tire and shoe impressions.  Incumbents supervise Crime Scene Specialists and may process, photograph, and record crime scenes showing correlation between evidence and scene, perform various chemical and photographic processes in the laboratory or the field to develop and preserve evidence.  In addition, the Shift Supervisor prepares administrative reports, testifies in court, and has supervisory and administrative responsibility for a shift in the Crime Scene Section. Vacancies are anticipated over the life of this eligible-to-hire list. 

ALSO REQUIRED Working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.  Some vacancies occur on second / third shift.  Candidates will be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related physical tasks as part of the Police Department’s selection process.  Candidates will be required to obtain one of the following professional certifications within 9 months from the date of hire:

American Board of Criminalistics

Crime Scene Technician (CST)

Technical Specialist (S-ABC)

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)

Diplomate (D-ABC)

Crime Scene Analyst (CSA)

Fellow (F-ABC)

Senior Crime Scene Analyst (SCSA)

South University is currently accepting applications for Online Adjunct Faculty members to teach Bloodstain Pattern Analysis.  PhD’s or Master’s Degree with emphasis in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or closely related area required.  At least 2 years professional experience in collecting, preserving, analyzing and interpretation of bloodstain evidence and 2 years working with crime scences and collection of evidence is preferred.

Course Description:

This course explains the underlying scientific principles involved in bloodstain pattern analysis, which helps in the reconstruction of violent crime scenes. Topics include, the general properties of blood, droplet directionality, documenting bloodstains, and dealing with the risk of blood borne pathogens.

The U.S. Department of Justice is searching for fluent English/Spanish-speaking forensic scientists.

The program, termed the International Criminal Investigations Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), works in foreign nations to further develop strong, science-based criminal investigations. The positions are generally short in duration and range from 1-3 weeks.

Description: MPRI is currently seeking highly qualified Spanish-speaking Forensic Scientists to travel to Colombia for one to three weeks to teach courses in:

            Forensic chemistry

            Blood stain analysis

            Forensic evidence collection

            Voice analysis

            Crime scene management

            Tool mark/firearms

            Firearms

The training is part of the International Criminal Investigations Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) within the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. This exciting and unique program focuses on providing high-quality forensic training to countries working to upgrade their forensic capabilities.

Qualifications: Qualified individuals will have an extensive background in forensic science, with knowledge of a broad range of basic and advanced forensic science applications and techniques including forensic disciplines. The successful candidate must posses at least a B.S. in the biological sciences, Ph.D or M.D. preferred. Applicants must have 7 or more years of experience as an active forensic scientist in one of the above listed forensic disciplines.
