The BPA (Bloodstain Pattern Analysis) studies the shape, size and distribution of blood stains in order to infer the circumstances that led to the formation in a criminal event.
This methodology finds its immediate application in the reconstruction of the dynamics of events and can also provide elements of interest for other situations which are legally relevant and connected to the criminal dynamics.
The BPA is, therefore, a ' activities aimed to draw assumptions about a criminal event more or less complex, based on the interpretation of objective evidence, such as traces of blood.
The BPA may play in the Italian criminal trial, a double function: investigative tool in pre-trial procedures and means of proof , during the actual trial.
